Argentina · Citizenship by Investment

Argentina is opening its citizenship to investors.

South America’s first programme, expected to open this quarter, from USD 350,000. Bond and Partners holds your place in the first intake.

Programme status, October 2026. Pricing is announced and Argentina is targeting the fourth quarter of 2026, the quarter now under way. Applications are not open yet and no portal exists, which is exactly why a place in the queue matters today.

What it costs

One contribution.
One published price.

On 2 October 2026 Argentina put a number on its programme for the first time. This is that number, unchanged.

Contribution to the Argentine Treasury

USD350,000

Non-refundable. Principal applicant. This is the route we work with.

Adding your family

  • SpouseUSD 100,000
  • Child aged 18 to 25, unmarried and without childrenUSD 100,000
  • Child under 18USD 25,000
A family of fourUSD 500,000

Figures announced 2 October 2026. Government fees and processing costs have not been published, so no firm can yet quote a true all-in number.

There is also a bond route: USD 800,000 in a seven-year government security paying no interest, covering the principal applicant only, with dependants still added by Treasury contribution. It ties up more than twice the capital for the same passport, so it is rarely the right answer. Ask us if you want it looked at.

The timing

Europe has told the Caribbean to close.

On 25 June 2026 the European Commission wrote to five Caribbean states asking them to phase out their citizenship by investment programmes by 1 June 2028. The letter named Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia. If they do not comply, their citizens can lose visa-free entry to the Schengen Area.

The legal basis is the revised EU Visa Suspension Mechanism, in force since 31 December 2025, under which simply running a citizenship by investment programme is now grounds on its own to suspend visa-free travel.

Those five programmes are what Argentina is about to compete with. Entry there starts near USD 200,000. Argentina starts at USD 350,000, with a passport that was strong before the programme existed and will be strong without it.

The asset

The Argentine passport is already one of the strongest in the Americas.

Not a passport shop.
A country.

Forty-seven million people, the third largest economy in Latin America, and a passport earned over decades rather than invented for this programme. From Buenos Aires to Patagonia, Argentina was here long before the investors were invited.

The terms

No move.
No renunciation.

No residence in Argentina

The framework qualifies investors regardless of where they live.

No physical presence

There is no minimum stay required to naturalise through this route.

No renunciation

Argentina permits dual citizenship. You keep what you already hold.

No automatic Argentine tax residency

A February 2026 reform moved citizens naturalised through investment out of automatic tax residency. Residency now follows physical presence, not the passport.

On tax, read this carefully

The reform still awaits authorisation from the Ministry of Economy and has no activation date. Two readings of the text compete, one of which treats twelve months of physical presence as the trigger for full worldwide taxation. Treat your own position with a tax adviser. We will not tell you this programme is a tax plan.

The honest version

It is announced.
It is not open.

Most firms selling this will not show you the next ten lines. You are about to move between USD 350,000 and USD 500,000, so you should see them.

May 2025

DNU 366/2025 is issued. It is the instrument allowing naturalisation without prior residence, and the legal foundation of the entire route.

31 July 2025

Decree 524/2025 formally creates the programme, the first of its kind in South America.

April 2026

The tender for the programme operator is cancelled. Weeks later the government appoints an executive director to the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programmes, APCI.

18 June 2026

A federal appeals chamber in Buenos Aires rules DNU 366/2025 unconstitutional.

30 June 2026

The National Electoral Chamber declares the same decree null.

July 2026

The government appeals to the Supreme Court. The decision is still pending.

2 October 2026

Pricing is announced, with a government target of the fourth quarter of 2026 for first applications.

Before you commit

Two risks, stated plainly.

The programme may not open on schedule

The fourth quarter target is a government objective, not a commitment, and it depends on a court that has not ruled. Registering a priority place costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. Do not move funds against a date that does not exist yet.

Europe’s new rule points at every programme

The same mechanism being used against the five Caribbean states applies to any visa-exempt country running such a programme. Vanuatu has already lost visa-free access on these grounds. Argentina could come under the same scrutiny once it opens.

Our reading, and it is a reading

Argentina is not a microstate selling passports as an export. It is a country of 47 million with a passport earned over decades, a published entry price well above the Caribbean floor, and a multi-agency vetting process. That is the profile the Commission says it wants. But no advisory firm can promise you what Brussels will decide, and any firm that does is selling you something it does not have.

Questions

What people ask us.

Can I apply today?
No. Pricing has been announced and the government is targeting the fourth quarter of 2026, but applications are not open, no portal exists, and the implementing regulation has not been published. Anyone offering to file an application for you today cannot do so.
What is the minimum, all in?
USD 350,000 as a non-refundable contribution to the Argentine Treasury for a single applicant. A family of four costs USD 500,000. A bond route at USD 800,000 also exists, but it ties up more than twice the capital for the same passport and is rarely the right answer. Government fees have not been published, so no one can yet quote you a true all-in figure.
Do I have to live in Argentina?
No. The framework qualifies investors regardless of residence and sets no minimum stay.
Do I have to give up my current citizenship?
No. Argentina permits dual citizenship.
Will I become an Argentine taxpayer?
Not through citizenship alone. A February 2026 reform moved investment-naturalised citizens out of automatic tax residency, tying it to physical presence instead. The reform still awaits ministerial authorisation and its wording is read two ways. Take advice on your own position.
How long will approval take?
The National Directorate of Migration is to decide within 30 business days of receiving the vetting reports. That is one stage, not the end-to-end timeline, which has not been published.
Can my children be included?
Yes. Children under 18 are added at USD 25,000, and unmarried children aged 18 to 25 without children of their own at USD 100,000. A spouse is USD 100,000.
What happens to my place if the programme never opens?
Nothing is owed and nothing is paid. A priority registration is a position in our queue and a review of your eligibility, not a transaction. If Argentina does not proceed, we will tell you, and we will tell you what else fits.
